Four songs, a few Happy Birthdays, and a room that kept singing together. On Tuesday, 2 June, around 150 people gathered at Soden’s Hotel in Albury for June PUBlic Choir. This month had a bit of everything: four songs, a few Happy Birthdays, maracas, raffle prizes, and a room full of people willing to sing along. Chris Pidd led the night solo again, keeping the crowd moving through Don’t Worry, Be Happy, Give a Little Bit, Don’t Stop, and We Will Rock You. A small group. A courageous conversation.
Over the weekend, a small group of local participants completed safeTALK suicide alertness training at PCYC Albury. Hosted by Tim at Albury PCYC and facilitated by Chris Pidd, the workshop created space for people to talk openly about a difficult subject, learn practical skills, and build confidence around conversations that many of us find confronting. Learning how to speak up Suicide can be an uncomfortable word to say out loud. Part of the value of safeTALK is that it helps normalise direct, safe conversations about suicide.
